Global engineering group Fives has launched a 100% hydrogen duct burner to support the global decarbonisation of heating and drying processes.

Fives’ first product of this type, the Hy-Ductflam™ is designed for new installations or to replace standard duct burners to help reduce a manufacturers’ carbon footprint.

Emitting no CO2, the Hy-Ductflam™ can switch fuels from 100% natural gas to 100% hydrogen, without any changes made to the equipment.

By using Fives’ Hy-Ductflam™ set on 100% hydrogen, a paper plant, for example, will emit 170 kg less of CO2 per tonne of paper produced, which significantly reduces its carbon footprint.

The technology is mainly dedicated to drying application in ceramic, minerals, pulp, etc., but could be extended to other applications such as heat recovery boilers.

Francesco Giudici, General Manager at Fives ITAS, said the solution answers the need for decarbonisation of our customers. He also hinted at new hydrogen innovations to come.

Earlier this year (January 2023), the industrial group teamed up with Cryomotive to develop and validate a cryogenic pump for generating CRYOGAS hydrogen based on Fives’ cryogenic reciprocating pump technology.

The Cryomec Hy-Filling™ pump designed by Fives, will be a key component of future hydrogen refuelling stations for long-haul truck, and other heavy-duty transport applications.

CO2 Summit 2023

Shortages and sourcing challenges are the headline stories everyone’s talking about in CO2 supply. But the whole carbon dioxide value chain is transforming – as this story itself demonstrates.

Applications are not only emerging and evolving but demanding more of the industry and its sourcing too. That calls for new thinking in CO2 storage and distribution, but it also raises questions over the tracking and management of supply chains. How we see CO2 is changing, shifting from waste disposal to a value chain in its own right. This will see the tonnage utilisation of CO2 evolve beyond recognition.

Join gasworld this September as our North American CO2 Summit 2023 assesses the threats, challenges and opportunities ahead in carbon dioxide – how we find it, source it, purify it and deliver it. Learn about the changing face of CO2; the opportunities in direct air capture (DAC); supply chain strategies; carbon credits and legislation; and so much more.

Tickets are selling fast and sold-out early last year, so book your place now. For more information and how to attend, visit https://gasworldconferences.com/conference/north-american-co2-summit-2023-indianapolis/
